Google Has Begun Mobile-First Indexing (MFI)

On March 26, 2018 (US time), Google announced on its official blog that it had formally begun mobile-first indexing (MFI).

Until now, Google's indexing and ranking systems have primarily used the desktop version of content, but from now on the mobile version of a page will be used for indexing and ranking.

Scope of Impact

When mobile-first indexing is applied, the mobile version of a page is used for Google's indexing and ranking. The content shown in search results is also taken from the mobile version.
Note that Google says mobile-first indexing is currently applied only to sites that are ready for it. Sites to which it has been applied receive a notification to the webmaster in Search Console.

Google's Policy

Google has long recommended mobile-friendly content, and says it will continue to do so. It also says mobile-friendly content is useful for webmasters who are considering how to improve their results in mobile search. Google further says that loading content quickly is similarly useful.

What You Need to Do

Google says that sites using responsive web design are generally set up for mobile-first indexing.

Because the LIQUID PRESS series consists of responsive themes, no additional action is required at this time, but we plan to investigate the impact on indexing and rankings going forward.
Note that the LIQUID PRESS series passes the Google Mobile-Friendly Test.
